This elephant folio is a scarce limited edition, being copy number out of This volume contains parts I and II of the six-part work. The decorative full-leatherette binding is ornamented with extensive gilt decoration to the covers and spine, and two green spine labels are present with gilt lettering. Reproduced in the same size and with paper of similar tone and texture, this Dutch-language volume has text in double columns, decorated with illustrated initials.
The volume is profusely illustrated with folding, double-page, and color charts and maps. The exterior displays minimal wear, with light rubbing and faint soiling. The binding is firm. The interior is clean and bright, with well-preserved plates. This volume has been collated and appears complete. In addition to the frontispiece, it contains two one-page plates, eight folding maps, and 79 double-page plates.
This volume also contains two one-page color plates and six double-page color plates. The text consists of two parts, each with pages numbered one through In part one, 94 pages are numbered, as the sequence of the page numbers contains the following errors: At page 56 the pages are numbered 73, 78, 79, 80, 62, 62, 63, 64, Part two contains pages of text.

Title: Memoirs of Frederick Baron Trenck. Written by Himself. His father was transferred to Konigsberg in Documents show that Friedrich was a law student in at the University of Konigsberg. In November of he became a cadet in Frederick the Great's garde de corps and six weeks later was given the commission of Cornet. Unfortunately for Friedrich, his first cousin Baron Franz von der Trenck, who was on the side of Austria, nearly captured Frederick the Great and returned his cousin's horses that had been taken by an Austrian officer. Rumors spread that Friedrich was an Austrian spy and after it was learned that he was Franz von Trenck's sole heir, the rumors were impossible to silence.
The king ordered that Friedrich had to sit on his own gravestone. In , von der Trenck escaped from the fortress of Glatz. Then, in , he obtained an employment as Rittmeister of an imperial cuirassier regiment in Hungary.

He traveled to Russia where he, or so he claimed, became gentleman of the bed chamber in the court of Tsarina Elizabeth of Russia. He fell in love with a married woman, whose name he never revealed. In , he went to Danzig for the funeral of his mother, but was again captured on the orders of Frederick II and was sent to the Citadel Magdeburg de in Magdeburg.
To prevent him from attempting to escape, they fastened his hands, feet, and body with heavy chains and manacles. In , he was released through the intervention of Empress Maria Theresa. During the next ten years, von der Trenck led an active life. He busied himself in writing literature, running a wine trading business, and travelling to England and France.
